A Key To Success - Break Your Own Mold
I’ve always thought outside of the box. Not always correctly, mind you. I make mistakes. A lot of them. But I learn from them. I learn more from failures than I do from successes. I always want to break the mold, go against the grain, flip the script.
But this month I found out that it wasn’t enough. It’s not enough to go against the world’s grain. You have to go against your OWN grain.
For example. 13 is a sore number for me. I’m very superstitous. I just picked up a Steve Nash jersey though. His #? 13.
Makes perfect sense to me. I’m going against my own grain, breaking my own mold. Doing the same thing as everyone else doesn’t breed success. And neither does doing the same thing you always do.
Change it up.
Another and more important example is my recent purchase of ReadBurner. For a long time, I saw people spending thousands on setting up websites and web apps. I’ve been tinkering for a while with a few projects that haven’t seen the light of day yet. But I thought that spending no money, and putting blood sweat and tears into it would bring me success. Well, it hasn’t.
So I read about Alex’s project ReadBurner, and when he said he couldn’t do it anymore alone, I jumped. I emailed Adam and said Lets Buy it. I think he probably thought I went nutso. “Drew? Buy? With Money?”. Yep. I broke my own mold. Stepped outside of my comfort zone. Did something against my own grain.
Know what? It’s about to pay off. In a week or so, you’re going to see ReadBurner come back to life, bigger and better, and with more promise than ever. I was Alex once, still am kinda. Start stuff, but never finish. Not because I COULDNT, just because I didn’t have the ammo. Well, this time? Ammo is loaded.
Break your own mold. I highly suggest it.
Eating vegetables though? I still have to work on that.
